Altar Servers
Altar servers assist the priest at mass as well as other liturgical celebrations. The servers range in age from nine to ninety-nine! Beginners attend training sessions.
Children's Liturgy
This ministry provides an opportunity for children ages 4 to 9 (junior and senior groups) to celebrate God's word at their own level. At the Saturday evening and Sunday morning Masses, the children are called forward, blessed and dismissed to another room. Celebrations help the junior children understand and respond to the Father's creation and Jesus' message of love. The senior children celebrate in their own way the gospel reading, homily, creed and intercessions. The children and their leaders rejoin the assembly during the presentation of the gifts. Over fifty volunteers work each year to serve the children as leaders of the children's liturgy program at Holy Child.
Eucharist Ministers
Lay bread and cup ministers assist the priest in the distribution of Eucharist at mass.
To make arrangements for the parish home ministers to take the Eucharist to the sick and shut-ins, call the parish office.
Hospitality
For Christians hospitality is held in the highest esteem by the church. We, as church, make ourselves most visible when we assemble for worship. In our parish community, we have members who are in the entrance before mass greeting people with a smile, handshake and words of welcome. By this practice, we can become the community envisioned by Christ where hospitality is practised by all.
Lectors and Commentators
The proclaimer of the Word of God to the assembly. Through the readings, the person communicates an understanding of the passages so that the listeners may receive a meaningful message. The Commentator introduces the liturgy, leads the prayers of the faithful and gives whatever directives are needed for full participation in the Mass.
Liturgy Committee
The objective of this committee is to ensure that all liturgies, Sunday mass and special occasions be celebrated with full meaning and smooth co-ordination. Through liturgies, the heart of the parish, our community gathers together to praise God and to pray for each other and the world around us. Many services are scheduled by this committee: lectors, Eucharist ministers, commentators, music ministers, servers, ministers of hospitality and ushers, decor ministry and children's liturgy of the word. All parishioners are invited to contact the liturgy committee chairperson to offer their time and talents to develop and maintain our liturgies.
Music Ministry
Music in the liturgy of the Catholic Church is an important element of our worship. In song, we use music and our voices to praise our God. Everyone is encouraged to sing. We have several music ministry groups in our parish to lead us in song. These groups vary in size and type of instrumentation used and always seek to involve us in the liturgy. On special occasions and fifth Sundays all the groups come together to form our combined parish choir adding to the festivity of our celebration.
Ushers
These people are a vital part of the hospitality and welcoming sector of the parish. They assist at liturgies in any way that creates an atmosphere wherein parishioners feel "at home" in the communal worship of God. They also assist with the taking up of the offertory gifts and occasionally distribute materials connected with the Liturgy and parish life.
