Bishops Appeal
Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.)
Meeting time: Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. in the Holy Child Balzer room.
Buildings and Grounds Committee
This committee is responsible for monitoring the design and over viewing the maintenance of our church, hall, rectory and grounds facilities. Also of important concern to this committee is the ongoing consideration of alternate uses of our facilities as we emerge as a parish community.
Catholic Women's League
Meeting time: First Monday of each month, at 7:30 p.m.
President: Shirley Campbell
All women of the parish are invited to be part of this local group of the Catholic Women's League of Canada. The objectives of the members are: to achieve spiritual development; promote teachings of the Catholic Church; exemplify the Christian ideal in home and family life; enhance the role of women in church and society; recognize the human dignity of all people everywhere; uphold and defend Christian education and values in the modern world; contribute to the understanding and growth of religious freedom, social justice, peace and harmony.
Finance Committee
The role of the Finance Committee is to oversee the financial affairs of the parish, to evaluate all possible sources of revenue and to ensure that adequate funds are available to meet the pastoral and operational needs of the parish. Our mandate also includes the funding of social justice and other needs of our church at large.
Food Baskets
The Food Bank is a local organization that assists the needy people of the city with food donations. The food they distribute comes solely from donations from various sources throughout the city. Other needy agencies such as the Marian Centre, Transition House, Sophia House, Encore High School, etc. are contributed to by our Parish. On the first Sunday of every month parishioners are invited to donate non-perishable food for this good cause. Cash donations will also be accepted.
Knights of Columbus
Meeting time: Fourth Monday of each month, at 7:30 p.m.

The Knights of Columbus is a world-wide organization of Catholic men with councils covering many countries. The main objectives of this council are to aid our church, develop fellowship and to perform charitable and educational works.
Library
Holy Child Parish Library is a free service located in the Kubash Room. It is an exciting place with several categories of books for adults/teens, and a very good selection for children. We encourage you to visit this centre. Videos for adults and children are also available on 3-day loan period.
Men's Club
Meeting time: Third Sunday of each month, at 7:30 p.m.
President:
In addition to fellowship and education, the objectives of the Men's Club are to unite the men of the parish in order to assist the pastor, the pastoral council and any parish organization in the following areas: providing outings for altar servers once a year; sponsoring community breakfasts; assisting the C.W.L. and the Youth Group; and providing cash donations to charities.
Offering Envelopes
Envelopes are made available to each parish family in December. New families may receive envelopes by contacting the parish office. Envelopes must be used in order to receive a tax receipt that is usually issued in late January.
Pastoral Council
The Parish Council of Holy Child/St. Joseph assists the pastor in providing Christian leadership to achieve the apostolic mission of the church, to proclaim the Good News among themselves and their neighbours by worship, personal witness and ministry. The Council meets monthly to assess parish needs, define priorities, advise, implement and to find means to encourage the Christian parish community to fulfill its responsibilities and use its gifts. The council consists of the pastoral team and lay representatives of the main committees and organizations of the parish. Parishioners are encouraged to volunteer their opinions to the council at any time.
Social Justice Committee
"Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it unto me." - Matthew 25:40.
Goals/Purpose:
o To educate the parish community about social justice issues.
o To identify and assist local groups which promote social justice for those struggling to maintain human dignity.
o To annually support one or two internationally accredited projects, which promote peace and justice.
This group seeks various ways to educate parishioners about social justice issues and to motivate them to specific actions via direct service and/or social change projects. Projects involve various local groups and annually support one or two internationally accredited programs.

Special events
In the spirit of building friendships and unity, the public relations committee helps promote and develop community relations and hospitality amongst parishioners, newcomers and visitors. Community relations and participation are encouraged and strengthened by coordinating social functions such as: family dances, children's Christmas party, Parish Family Picnic, etc. We also assist whenever called upon with any social function sponsored by other parish groups (Men's Club, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Women's League).
Youth
Meeting time: Youth group is currently inactive.
Youth Coordinator:
This ministry, with the support of the parishioners, aims to foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person within a caring Christian community. We also seek to involve each young person in the life, the mission and the work of the Christian community.
The junior group (grades 6 & 8) and senior group (grades 9 - 12) are involved in a variety of activities which include sports, dances, community work, service projects, etc.
